The True Meaning of Eid
Eid Mubarak, Abu… this is for you

The night before Eid was always magical. The sky shimmered with stars, and the moon of Eid brought smiles to every face. In a small neighborhood, families were busy preparing for the big day. Mothers cooked delicious meals, children tried on their new clothes, and fathers returned home with sweets and gifts.
In one corner of the street lived a young boy named Ayaan. He watched everything quietly from his window. His eyes sparkled with hope, but his heart felt heavy. This year had been difficult for his family. His father had lost his job, and there was barely enough money for daily needs—let alone Eid celebrations.
“Ammi,” Ayaan asked softly, “will we celebrate Eid tomorrow?”
His mother turned toward him with a gentle smile, though her eyes revealed her worries. “Of course, my son. Eid is not just about new clothes or big feasts. It’s about being thankful and sharing love.”
Ayaan nodded, but deep inside, he wished for just one new shirt, like the other children.
The next morning, the sound of “Eid Mubarak” echoed through the streets. Children ran outside in colorful clothes, showing off their shoes and laughing with joy. Ayaan stepped out wearing his old but neatly washed outfit. He tried to smile, but it wasn’t the same.
As he walked down the street, he noticed his friend Zain coming toward him. Zain was dressed in a beautiful new kurta and shiny shoes.
“Eid Mubarak, Ayaan!” Zain said excitedly.
“Eid Mubarak,” Ayaan replied, trying to hide his feelings.
Zain noticed something was wrong. “Why don’t you look happy?”
Ayaan hesitated but then said quietly, “It’s nothing… I just wish things were a little different this year.”
Zain thought for a moment. Then, without saying anything, he ran back home.
Ayaan continued walking, feeling even more alone. But a few minutes later, Zain returned, holding a small bag.
“This is for you,” Zain said, smiling.
Ayaan looked confused. “What is it?”
“Just open it.”
Inside the bag was a brand-new kurta. Simple, but beautiful.
Ayaan’s eyes widened. “Zain… I can’t take this.”
“Yes, you can,” Zain insisted. “My father always says Eid is about making others happy. I have more than I need, but you are my friend.”
Ayaan felt tears in his eyes. For the first time that day, his heart felt light.
Later, the two friends walked together to the Eid prayer. This time, Ayaan walked with confidence, wearing his new kurta and a bright smile. After the prayer, they hugged each other and said, “Eid Mubarak” again—this time with true happiness.
When Ayaan returned home, his mother was surprised. “Where did you get this?”
Ayaan smiled and said, “From a friend… and from Eid itself.”
His mother’s eyes filled with tears, but they were tears of joy.
That evening, Ayaan and his family shared a simple meal. It wasn’t a big feast, but it was full of love. Ayaan realized something important that day.
Eid was not about expensive clothes or rich food. It was about kindness, friendship, and sharing happiness with others.
