Closing Doors That Were Never Opened

She had a way of walking into places that were never hers, as if the world had been waiting for her all along. Doors did not need to be opened for her, she moved like they had already said yes. A smile in the right moment, a softness in her voice, and suddenly she was inside lives that had taken years to build.

She never rushed it. That was the trick. Opportunists who rush get seen, get questioned, get turned away. She was patient. She listened more than she spoke, learned the shape of people, where they were weak, where they were lonely, where they were quietly asking to be chosen. That was where she stepped in, not loudly, not forcefully, just enough to be felt. People called it connection. She let them.

She would sit in rooms that were not hers, drink from glasses she did not pour, laugh at stories she did not care about, and somehow become part of the picture. It was almost impressive, the way she could slide into a life and make it feel like she had always been there. She never asked for much at the start, just presence, just space, just a little piece of someone’s time. That was how it began, every time.

Then slowly, without anyone noticing, she took more. Not in obvious ways, never enough to cause alarm. Just small things. Attention, loyalty, a little bit of dependence. She knew how to make people feel needed, and once someone feels needed, they rarely question why. They offer more, give more, open doors wider, never realising she had never knocked in the first placeShe was careful though. Always careful.

The moment things became real, the moment someone started to look too closely, to ask questions that went deeper than the surface, she felt it. That quiet shift. That dangerous closeness. That was when she would begin to step back, slowly at first, creating space where there had once been closenessAnd then she would leave.

No scenes, no explanations, no broken endings. Just absence. Messages unanswered, calls ignored, a silence that replaced everything she had filled. And the strange part was, people did not get angry straight away. They were confused. They replayed everything, trying to understand what they had done wrong, how something that felt so real could disappear without a sound. She never closed doors behind her. Because she had never truly opened them.

What she left behind was not love, not connection, not anything solid. Just the idea of it. A feeling that had been carefully shaped, carefully placed, then quietly removed. Like a room that had been staged to look lived in, only to be emptied overnight. And she moved on, always moving.

Another place, another person, another life she could step into without permission. She told herself it was harmless, that people needed something, even if it was temporary. That she gave them something to feel, something to hold onto, even if it did not last. But sometimes, late at night, when there were no doors left to walk through, she felt it. The emptiness she left in others, echoing back inside her, Because you can spend a lifetime stepping into rooms that were never yours, but eventually, you realise there is nowhere that feels like home. And that is the cost of closing doors that were never opened.

This is great! And so true, there’s so much vulnerability that comes with actually opening yourself to real connections, the character is relatable
