Left my painting studio to find you waiting outside, holding your beloved trumpet.
Triumphant red hair, handsome schoolboy.
Still haven’t aged a day.
And your neck isn’t broken.
You smile at me, glowing. Hair turns grey. A knotty, white beard envelopes.
Only a carcass remains.
Your smile—intact.
