An essay

I decided my that religion does not suit me fully

Not the dictated rules, the limitations

I love God, but I also love everyone

From all over the world, without limiting myself to one gender, race or religion

I wanted to say that I love my people, I am Israeli, and that we don’t think we are above other people

At least most of us don’t

Perhaps the more religious ones

And a lot of us love people from round the world, too

This love isn’t always reciprocated, and from partially understood reason

We’re at a war and wars take lives

Both sides lives’ were and are taken

And that’s a fact

We might be wrong but just know that the situation is more complex than what it seems to be

The people in this country are diverse, we have Israeli Arabs that I’m keen of some (some terrorize us, literally)

They drive taxis, some studied with me at university, they work here

And yes, sometimes we’re unfair to them too

They go through body scanning to see if they’re terrorists or not, and that is unjust

But I’m not against anyone

I’m just against people who are trying to kill us

We took their land, but we had a holocaust, where were we supposed to go?

I know that perhaps some will criticize me

But I don’t try to twist things up,

I’m telling the truth

My truth

My country’s truth

We’re not against people, we are trying to protect our country, in violent ways, but it’d be hypocritical to say that it’s an entirely terrible thing to do if we’re in survival mode

We have nothing against anyone but we’re not terrible monsters, we are people that others want to demolish

So let’s go back to the start - I am not a Jew anymore, because religion does not fit me

But I am a Israeli and believe in the Jews’ God

I am not saying those words in anger, I’m just hurt because I feel that we’re misunderstood

I want you to know that I feel like my soul’s been everything of everything- a Christian, a Muslim, and a Jew

I feel that God loves everyone and that we’re all his children

But please understand that we’re also humans, and that we don’t want to be attacked for being in a war that we didn’t ask for, truly

And that personally everyone in this world is full of such amazing love and tenderness, hidden behind walls that were created because of hurt

I’m not even trying to preach, just to be honest

There is so much beauty in this world, in people, in animals, in nature, in everything

Don’t try to hate other people whoever they might be

Don’t take away others pride whatever religion or belief they might have

Be aware that your behavior can hurt others, even if your actions are from past traumas and an aching heart

Everyone deserves love

Respect

Compassion

Minimizing people and demonizing them, whoever they might be, I mean - sure, sometimes there are evil people or ill intended ones

But sometimes it’s just a cloud obscuring the sun

And that sun is the universal love surrounding us, implying that sometimes we demonize because of a projection

A rejection

Of what’s truth and what’s real

Everyone is human, there’s no sides really, it’s just the stories we tell ourselves

In this new world of love,

Choose real love,

Not in volume but in frequency

This love can be quiet

It can be unseen

It’s not loud and screaming

It’s small at times

But stable, consistent

And it can move mountains
