how you keep finding me

I found you long brown hair

entwined amongst the threads

of a thick woollen sock.

I remember when your DNA

was entwined with mine

and wonder if it looked like this.

I remember peeing on a stick outside

in December, you stood next to me

peeing on your own sticks

in solidarity.

That's as close as we ever came

to loving each other in the same way.

I remember how you used to dance around me

like a bonfire.

Each attempt to connect seen

as an attempt to burn.

I found your long brown hair

tangled in my sock, and

all I can do is remember you.

I sit on this step in the sun

hoping you will come out

and ask me to move.
