Grief

A pest without a name

Grief doesn't care how good life looks.

It doesn't wait for the slow rainy days,

Grief pokes and pesters.

It draws you in slowly at first,

Until it's a steep climb out.

Grief doesn't want to fight with you,

It only wants to be heard.

Grief wants a name.

It wants you to give it that name.

Communication starts with a greeting.

Grief feels like it's the captive,

It'll shout at the walls until they crumble.

Grief wants a release,

It wants you to open up and let it go.

You are the walls that set those confines.

Grief wants to sit with you,

It wants to talk it out.

Grief wants to hold you close,

It wants to hear your unspoken point of view.

Sit with your grief and see it all through.

Grief doesn't always move on,

It tends to leave little notes behind.

Grief doesn't always want to hurt.

It can often be a reminder on busy days

To honor whatever it is we long for.

Those parts of life that were just too good to forget.
