Love has become so cheap,

With the click of a button

A heart appears on the screen.

❤️

And just as quickly is lost in the cacophony of words, images, memes.

It is lost, a heart floating in a strawberry milkshake after a hard day's labor.

🩷

It is swimming in the blood of Iranian children taped up and lying in their earthen graves. ❤️‍🩹💔

It goes out with the rumble of war and returns with the wounded and dead.❤️💔

It sinks helplessly, coated in oil and the news of child trafficking. 🖤

It is tossed on a turbulent stream of lost cats and dogs, some found, of newly decorated rooms, quotes, memes, wars, lost children, victims, flower gardens, bombed rubble, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, dinners you can make quickly, banquet halls, weight loss efforts, maple syrup, deaths of notable people, achievements, scandals, political lies, destruction of public property, forgotten moments in history.

A cute I Care, Don’t You?

Natalie, this piece hit me like a wave I didn’t know I was holding my breath for. The way you weave joy, tragedy, and the trivial all into one current is devastatingly real. I felt the weight of every “floating heart” and every loss you named.. it’s heartbreak and clarity wrapped together.

A rather wrenching shift from the mundane to the monstrous and back again--deftly done!
