As a preface, I wrote this in 1985 when I was in Minnesota.

I gave framed, hand-written copies to my dad's siblings for Christmas. My aunt recently sent me a photocopy of hers. Until then, I had completely forgotten about it.

Be gentle!

*

Heav'nly Father, God above

Holy Spirit, Lord of love

Please forgive my sins each day

And help me always walk your way.

*

Thank you for the gift of strength

When faith remains through tests at length.

Tell me always what to say

And help me always walk your way.

*

Help me God to share your word

Until the world will have heard

Your plans for those who in your stay

Have ever always walked your way.

*

Bless the people that I know

In what they do and where they go.

Guide my studies, song, and play

And help me always walk your way.

*

If it be your will by grace,

Spread your bounty every place.

Cheer me when I'm feeling gray

And help me always walk your way.

*

Teach me Father how to pray

Guide my soul when it may stray.

Lead me to your chosen day

And help me always walk your way.

I concur with the sentiment expressed in this beautiful poem. It is as true today as it was back then. Well done Julie.

The rhythm and repetition of “walk your way” create a comforting mantra. It’s beautiful to see a piece from 1985 still resonate so strongly today.
