Knights of a Bygone Era
Under a creamy sky illuminated by the ethereal glow of a waning gibbous moon, horses of an abandoned carousel stood suspended in time. Their noble colors painted with expert precision now bore cracks, and their eyes stared lifelessly into the nightfall ahead of them. Banners that were once colorfully abstract and bold with thrilling promise, hung loosely in place; tattered, limp, and weather worn. A fresh canopy of natures unchecked plant life intricately had snaked through the abandoned frames, an infiltration done over decades time. A breeze wove through the forgotten trails like those of the past, its gentle whisper softly transporting a phantom recreation of laughter from the ride enthusiasts and cotton candy sweetness forever trapped faintly within the eroding metal maze. The ancient bones of the structures groaned under the bleak kiss of the breeze, like that of an exhausted being who has outlived everyone they’ve ever known, and contributing to the discordant sound of nocturnal life within the forest looming over it all. The shadows of the forest danced in the moonlight and throughout the area, melding with the distant murmur of sound, and producing an echo of revelry and tales only the moon retained a memory of. The horses continued to look into the moonlit ruins, as they would till the earth fully reclaimed them and all they beheld. Until then, they remained posed in mid gallop, as knights of a bygone era.
