Giving It All Away
Introduction I see lots of posts on Vocal and Medium on how to make lots of money in next to no time by various methods, and we would all like to stumble on a method where we could set something in motion where we do absolutely nothing apart from raking in the cash and having loads of money to spend. On an almost daily basis I am targetted by (usually "females" in bikinis about making a fortune in cryptocurrencies and forex if I just have a thousand dollars to give them) whichI block as soon as they contact me.

This Is Not A Limerick
Introduction Another protest at the flood of short-form poems. This is not a dig at the poems but a suggestion to Vocal who could limit the number of entries into a challenge for any kind of submission. I believe some creators see the short-form poems as a sort of free lottery ticket. They are quick to create and get published and surely if you enter a hundred into the challenge you stand a better chance of winning.

The Fall - Not Your Average Covers Band
Introduction After seeing the Sex Pistols in 1976 Mark E. Smith formed The Fall. We lost Mark in 2018 to lung and kidney cancer, but he was the only constant in the band that featured some great members such as Brix Smith, Marks Riley and Radcliffe (who as The Shire Horses had their own irreverent covers band as well as being DJs on BBC Radio 6, and I may do a piece on them)

The Chessboard Tightrope
Introduction This is a story based on eight drawn tarot cards and Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt's "Oblique Strategies". The drawn cards are here. The story is determined by these cards but may feel crazy and confusing because the oblique strategy method will be used for each card and I will weave that into the story.

That'll Be The Day - David Essex's Musical Genesis
Introduction I think I was first introduced to David Essex as a despicable fairground worker and eventual megastar in the film pair "That'll Be The Day" and "Stardust". The first being set in the 1950s the second in the 1960s. I worked for three days on a fairground on Moor Park in Preston and was nothing like the Jim Maclaine in the film. You can read about it on Wikipedia here.

The Story Of Mad Alice Lane - A Dark Masterpiece by Peter Lawlor
Introduction Many years ago in an advert for Land Rover (which I have not yet found on Youtube), I heard a song that has stuck with me ever since. It is ghostly, eerie and atmospheric and has captured the attention of many listeners and viewers.

Saint Patrick's Blind Date. Top Story - March 2023.
This is for the latest Vocal challenge that you can read about below. The limerick only clocks in at thirty words, but I hope it brings a smile to your face. I can't change the font or size in the Vocal editor so took a screenshot of my limerick as well

Rumpel Stiltskin?
Introduction This is for a Vocal+Assist Challenge that you can read about here The challenge is to write a piece of flash fiction of less than a thousand words (most of mine is). There is no specific genre but you MUST include the word 'Rumplestiltskin' somewhere in the story.

Problems
Introduction This is a semi-diatribe or rant, but it isn't really. This is a piece on how we expect things to happen and when they don't, it at the least disconcerts us. Part of my psyche wants every single thing that I produce or do to be done in a positive manner. I see many people going mad at the least inconvenience (and usually it is just that and they usually have the means to circumnavigate the problem) and I see people in worse situations who just try to cope under states of duress.

Go Ask Alice
Introduction This story is for the Vocal "Broken Mirror" Challenge which you can read about below. The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own, not surprising because the silvering on the back of the glass was very worn and flaking, so I just saw a shadow reflected there. The glass was covered in hairline cracks so the actual mirror would have to be replaced, but the frame was what had drawn me to it.
