The Long Weekend
The Northeast has been my home on and off for the past decade. Traveling up and down this slip-and-slide only to climb right back to its peak once more. Maine. Vacationland or as it has been toted to the masses. American flags line the roads of small-town America. An Old fashion church slumbers, fasting away. The dirt road in a wooded wonderland curiously curls its trajectory. Mousam Lake, a cabin overlooking its prowess. My brother from another mother is back stateside and has invited me to his family property upon this secluded lake.

The Bus Stop Fate
When I was seventeen, this incident occurred... I would take the bus home after going to the gym three to four times a week. It was a Sunday, and I had just missed my bus, making the wait for the next one longer. While they were out for the evening and taxis cost extra, I would have contacted my folks instead. I made the choice to wait for the bus there while sitting down. Snow had just begun to cover the ground, and it was a chilly night. Since my bus was taking longer than normal, I pulled out my phone and put on some music.

Coming Out at Thanksgiving
My hands shake as I sit with my new therapist who questions me about how I am feeling about coming out to my extended family this upcoming Thanksgiving. She looks at me expectantly, trying to piece together the stories that spill out of my mouth as I explain to her (my cisgender, straight therapist with not nearly enough training in this area) why the fear of their reactions still clings to my heart and why I know that, after this Thanksgiving, nothing will be the same during our family dinners.
