“I don’t understand why you don’t like the snow, Grandpa. Look at how beautiful the hills look, tucked under a blanket of white. I love how the starlight reflects off the pristine snow. It gives the field a soft, winter wonderland look. Everything is so beautiful, Grandpa. I see nothing here to dislike. Didn’t you tell me this is where you grew up as a child?”

Quitting
Light pierced the cold darkness when the door opened and my husband's face looked down upon me. Unshaven, with haggard eyes, I almost didn't recognize him. I hadn't seen him in this state since he had returned from Iraq. I screamed for attention but I could not utter a sound. His hand passed by me, grabbed a beer, and doomed me to the darkness once again. I remember almost nothing but sudden pain, my daughter's shrill scream, and then blackness.

My Alien Vacation
For my school break, we went on vacation to a backwoods planet in some faraway galaxy. The inhabitants call it Earth. It is mostly visited by scientific expeditions and poachers looking for exotic pets to sell on the black market, but my parents thought that it would be a good learning experience for my little sister and me. They wouldn’t even let me take my immersive reality suit with me, so it was a real snore fest. At least, it would have been if they hadn’t let me take Zorg with us.
