Another year, another wipe. It is that time, once again. We are weeks away from Tarkov resetting once more and everyone starting over with a brand-new patch with brand new additions changes and the like. This wipe has felt like it’s gone on forever, because it kind of has; eight months is one of the longest wipes we’ve had. And also, because with the addition of the PvE mode, anyone who tried that out had to basically start over mid wipe. So technically, if you played PvE at all, you are going to be starting from level one for the third time in a single year. Pretty crazy when you think about it. But with any incoming wipe, it’s important to go over some mentality components when it comes to a new Tarkov wipe. There is a ton of excitement and hype surrounding whenever the game resets. People love the thrill of the early game, and it’s one of the best times to engage with the game. But at the same time, you can easily get swelled up in that hype and become overwhelmed with what’s going on. So, when you do start your next Tarkov journey, keep these mindsets in mind so that you can get the most out of your wipe day experience.

The First Time You Played Tarkov
Do you remember the first time you played Escape From Tarkov? I’m sure if everyone thought long and hard about when they first heard about Tarkov and their first couple dozens of hours with the game, a wave of nostalgia comes flooding past them. The sense of not knowing what to do, what each item meant, and how your inventory looked substantial at the start, only after a couple of failed raids did you realize the gear given to you is quickly leaving the stash. It’s one of those experiences that as someone who enjoys video games, I would love to experience as a brand-new player once again. Up there with games like Call of Duty Zombies, the first month of For Honor, and any Dark Souls game. For how scary and intimidating Tarkov is initially, I look back on playing the game for the first time with more confusion and questions than really anything else. When I first played Factory, I thought you needed the Factory key in order to extract from the map. So, I looked up where it spawns and farmed the location running nothing but a hatchet for about a week. Only to then finally get the game, and have it wipe, not even understanding where the key went once I booted up the after it reset. We all start somewhere and for me, even though I had no clue what was going on, I was still enjoying myself if you can even believe that. Tarkov has changed so much in the almost seven years I have been playing it. Tons of new content and additions to the games in terms of gear and mechanics, but also going through the tougher waves when things weren’t looking so good. So today, I wanted to take some time and reflect on all the things about Tarkov that still feel nostalgic and maybe after listening it might unlock some core Tarkov memories that you totally forgot about, and who knows, they might put a little smile on your face as you remember the good and simpler times.

Tarkov’s Arena Mode Might Officially Be Dead
Tarkov’s Arena mode has been out for 7 months now. In that timeframe, we have seen the hype for Arena go from unparalleled, down to mere whispers and echoes of what BSG set out to create with the alternative mode of play for Tarkov. It was supposed to be an extension of proper Tarkov; something that was going to compliment the game. Allowing veterans of the game to have something else to play and engage with that was new and refreshing. And it also was going to help newcomers into Tarkov become more familiar with the battle mechanics and help boost their confidence to go and play the real game. But the reality of the situation is that BSG couldn’t execute on their idea for a battle arena style mode for Tarkov well enough on launch, and is now and has been since day one, playing catch up trying to recoup the losses both in terms of player retention numbers, as well as the financial numbers. Making Arena wasn’t cheap; and neither was the amount they spent on promotion for the game mode across various conventions. Speaking for only myself, I never wanted Arena to fail and die off, but this is unfortunately a harsh lesson about managing expectations and what you actually deliver as a product to the mass's day one. First impressions are so important. Arena overtime, has only gotten better. But at what cost? Arena might, and I need to emphasize that, might be dead. And no matter what BSG does to try and bring life back into it, the damage has already been done. And that’s what hurts the most.

If You Could Change ONE Thing in Tarkov, What Would it Be?
If you were allowed to change one thing about Tarkov, what would that one thing be? It’s a loaded question I know, but this has been brewing in my mind for a couple of days now. Tarkov has so many different mechanics, ideas, and concepts thrown into it that asking someone to change one of those feels unfair. Over the years, BSG has only added more and more to their game, and while those additions are usually interesting once they get the implementation right, when you look at the game from a bird’s eye view, it can feel daunting with how much content is actually in the game. And from that angle, there is an overwhelming amount of possibilities and potential to change how Tarkov plays, in one area or another. You could completely adjust how weapons function with their ergonomics and recoil. You could change the medical system. You remove features you don’t like; maybe something akin to found in raid. The possibilities are truly endless. So today, I wanted to go over a handful of features or mechanics I would change within Tarkov and go over why I would change them. And then maybe at the end of the list, pick one that might have the most potential positive impact on the game.
