Three hours ago the sky was clear, the wind at our backs, and the sea was wonderfully calm. Me and my men were singing and drinking after a successful raid on a small port village. Now we were in the middle of a raging storm and a maelstrom that had opened in the middle of it all. On top of that cannonballs were flying past and occasionally hitting the ship. The cannonballs were from an English Navy ship that had been dispatched just for us. I'll admit I did feel special at this moment.

Laundromat
Isaias sat sideways on the very last of a line of pale blue fiberglass chairs that were connected by a thick single metal bar underneath. He was looking out of the large laundromat glass window at the sky above the old run-down buildings that lined the street.

CRAZY
Not again. The presence. I can feel the chill. The breeze of an entity passing past me. Taunting me. Again. This story begins many years ago. A tiny community constructed next to the large, ominous at times, lake in the woods. No one knew the series of spirit connection to the structure that had been relocated to this very spot so long ago. This structure itself attached to a famously known haunted church from miles down the road. These spirits are not happy and long to be home again.

Come swim with me
I relive the same nightmare every night. Night after night I walk down to the shore, the pebbles crunching under my bare feet, the sound of water lapping, softly washing over me. I stand in the water, just up to my ankles and feel the cold creep up my legs, into my belly, my chest, until my whole body is covered in goose bumps and shivering. Then I hear it. A soft, almost melodious voice whispering across the water “…come….keep coming… you’re almost home…” it sounds as if it’s spoken with a smile, gentle and reassuring. It’s not a voice I recognise, buts it’s oddly familiar. It’s everywhere, but nowhere. I can’t place if it’s a man or a woman, it’s just a voice, beckoning, guiding, calling me.

The Unknown: Tale from the Lagoon
In a small town on the outskirts of North Carolina, lives a community built around a lagoon. Our community has never had an official name because we don't appear on any maps. Us townies refer to our beautiful, small residence as The Unknown.
