Failure to Comply.
Written a few weeks ago out of sheer frustration. Now being submitted for the "Say It Plainly" challenge.
A mother and her four children
Are awoken
By the sounds of a door bashed in
with all the might of a man in a mask
In a kevlar vest,
Hiding from sight
Behind a blinding, bright light
Unsure if they’ll survive the night.

A 37 year old woman,
A poet, and mother of three
Was executed by authorities,
as she attempted to flee,
° One bullet in her left arm,
Two more in her chest.
° °
And a final one through her
°
temple.
Before she took her final breaths.
Her final words to him were
“That’s fine, dude.
I’m not mad at you.”
The murderer’s final words to her were
“Fucking Bitch.”

Children under the age of 12
Too afraid to go to school
Begging to be absent
From the presence of the cruel.
Radicals wielding firearms.
And power hungry tyrants.
Conscripted by the government
To separate those children from their parents.
The memories those kids will keep
From the atrocities they’ve had to see
Will haunt them for the rest of their lives
While the oppressors grin with glee.

A former research scientist
A Nurse that tended to veterans
Who dedicated his life to healing
And saving others with his hands
Attempted to use those same hands
To help a victim stand,
Who was shoved into the snow
By a monster, masquerading as a man.
As he reached down to help her up.
His aid was met with a blast of mace
Sprayed directly into his face
By disgraced savages
Who proceeded to throw him to the ground
And riddle his unmoving body with a flurry of bullets
His final words were
“Are you ok?”

In this country,
The words “Failure to Comply”
Get Tossed around quite often.
Rarely about the government agents,
Failing to follow protocol.
Failing to comply with the oath they took
To protect their fellow citizens against the oppression
They themselves have wrought
Upon their fellow human beings.

The government and its services have failed to comply with their own damn purpose
