I'm a subversive weirdo nerd witch who loves rocks. Intrusive rhyme bothers me. Some of my fiction may have provoked divorce proceedings in another state.š

Fiction Workshop Winter Quarter 1997
I had to fight to take the class because I hadnāt completed the prereqs, and it was a 400 level class. I donāt think I knew I was pregnant yet; midterm was in late October, and I got pregnant the Monday after the Fleetwood Mac concert in Atlanta. The two friends I went with were my daughterās godmothers at her Christening, but we fell out of touch, and neither are part of either of our lives anymore. It was also the Monday before Thanksgiving, which is another story for another day.

Snob
I admit itāIām a snob, but not your everyday, garden variety snob. I donāt give a flying fuck what kind of car you drive, what schools your parents could afford to send you to, how much money you have/make, or what your maternal grandmotherās maiden name was. All of that shit is irrelevant to me.

Veronica . Content Warning.
āYeah? Well, I donāt give one single cold-hearted revenge fuck what you think.ā Veronica sealed her statement with a contemptuous sneer, turned on her heel and walked out. People were so fucking self-entitled and stupid, and she didnāt know how much more she could tolerate.

Never
Now Iām thinking about all the times you never saw me, when I didnāt even care. I became so me that I forgot about you, writing in my top-bound spiral notebooks on campus, on the lawn, stretched out on my blanket, barefoot, books and words and the music of the wind in the trees, friends dropping by to chat. Smoking and drinking coffee.

Why I Love Vocal
Iām fairly new hereāIāve been a contributor for fewer than six months. In the short time Iāve been here, Iāve met some amazing writers whose work really speaks to me. Iāve stumbled across magical morsels of this and that in different communities, and Iām branching out and dipping my toe in the pools of communities outside my comfort zone. Iāve learned that thoughtful comments tend to elicit a response, and most of the writers Iāve met are great about guiding me to work of theirs that they think I will like. Every little bit of kindness, every effort at community is appreciated, whether itās a like, an insight, a comment, a reply, or recognition in the form of a top story or placing in a challenge.

Mapping Us. Honorable Mention in Maps of the Self Challenge.
What would a map of my relationship with my first love look like? How big of a territory would it be, how many rivers, mountains, plains, valleys, beaches? What about the roadsāwhere do they come from, enroute where? Some two-lanes became highways over the years, and some arenāt even footpaths anymore. Our topography would challenge the most talented cartographer.

Southern Goodbye . Honorable Mention in The Sound of First Frost Challenge.
It slinks in slowly down here in God's country, that first frost. Southern seasons change softly, autumn and summer embrace like lovers, and then autumn does the goodbye ritual with the sunās warmth:
