The Streets Talk
When the Streets Talk I heard him say “that’s all you get, when all you know is the streets.” I thought long and hard about the response. Reason being, that’s all you get when you choose to not want better. When you make excuses for ill mannered behaviors, using code words from the urban dictionary, robbing, and embracing terminologies such as YN, and YB, it automatically ignites a fuel to fight for change. Not just within myself or the community, but also inside the threshold of the world, whatever that may look like at the time.

Even if you’re not a believer, there’s a weight to watching someone rip through it with “hidden history” and “they never told you this.” It’s very normal to feel a mix of fascination, anger, relief, or even a kind of vertigo after that. You’re not overreacting if it shook you.

The Prometheus material is similar. There are indeed fascinating thematic parallels between Prometheus and later ideas of Satan or Lucifer: a figure who defies the high god, brings knowledge or fire to humans, suffers for it, is bound and tormented. Ancient authors themselves sometimes played with these resonances. But those are literary and philosophical parallels, not genealogical ones. There is no historical chain that runs “Enki → Prometheus → Satan → Jesus,” as if these were successive masks of the same being. The video treats them that way, because it is always looking for a single hidden pattern, but that is a choice of interpretation, not something the sources force on you.

The conversation felt weak and unbalanced; The interlocutor in that video often doesn’t know basic historical facts. And that’s not my imagination. When someone with weak historical grounding interviews someone who is very confident but not academically trained, the result is exactly what I sensed: a conversation that sounds bold and revolutionary but collapses the moment one check it against real scholarship.

They use the critical editions and commentaries published by Brill, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, and similar academic houses. The standard English translation of the Panarion is by Frank Williams, published by Brill. Williams’ introduction explains in detail that Epiphanius is a polemical writer whose descriptions of heretical groups must be read with caution.

Extra points i thought to bring to your attention: When I said modern scholarship on heresiology and the Panarion is clear that Epiphanius is polemical, I’m thinking of people like Frank Williams, who produced the standard English translation of the Panarion for Brill, with a long introduction explaining Epiphanius’ methods and biases; of Averil Cameron, who has written extensively on late antique Christian polemic; and of David Brakke, whose work on Gnosticism and heresiology (for example “The Gnostics” and his studies on Athanasius and Egyptian monasticism) shows how heresiologists constructed enemies rhetorically. These are the kinds of names you’d see in university syllabi, not just on Wikipedia.
